With the aim to help people from minority and disabled groups take part in the arts, in 2015 the ODI provided the Arts Council England with research and training so they could use open data to better understand diversity issues within the sector. The report specifically addressed the social problem of a lack of diverse engagement in art in England and the difficulty in monitoring such diversity, discussing ways in which open data can impact this issue. The research established the current landscape of data related to diversity in the arts sector, discussed the quality of data and established usage. It also contained recommendations for collection and publication of data, and policy, technical, skills and organisational issues that require attention.
