Vinay Narayan

Vinay is a Senior Manager at Aapti Institute and a co-lead of the Participatory Data programme with the Open Data Institute. Vinay’s current research interest centers around unpacking the layers in existing digital infrastructures with a view to better understanding the criticality of data, and the role of critical supporting digital tools to inform equitable governance frameworks. He is the co-lead of Aapti’s AI research practice, and is involved in examining the impact of AI on rights and livelihoods. Vinay also leads Aapti’s work on data cooperatives, where the current focus is on building a network of support for data cooperatives, specifically in Global South contexts. He is also the lead in Aapti’s engagement as a member of the Steering Committee of the Global South Alliance – a network of 15 civil society organizations dedicated to the promotion of mutual learning and the advancement of digital rights with a perspective from the Global South.
