Dr. Rajat Shinde

Dr. Rajat Shinde is a Computer Scientist with the NASA Office of Data Science and Informatics (ODSI) at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, Alabama, US. His work focuses on data-centric AI, machine learning for Earth observation, and open data infrastructure. He contributes to projects involving above-ground biomass monitoring and foundation models for geoscience, leading data science activities for global scientific missions. He leads the development of GeoCroissant, an extension of Croissant, a metadata standard for ML-ready datasets. Rajat also co-chairs the Earth-2 Working Group within IEEE Geosciences and Remote Sensing Society (GRSS), working on AI models for digital twins, and serves as a Vice President of the Open Source Geospatial Foundation (OSGeo), supporting open standards and reproducibility in data science and software.
