Dr Jennifer Bell

Dr. Jennifer A.H. Bell, MA, PhD, is a Senior Bioethicist and Director of Bioethics Research in the Department of Clinical and Organizational Ethics, and Clinician-Scientist in the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre Department of Supportive Care Research Division, at the University Health Network located in Toronto, Canada. She is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Member of the Joint Centre for Bioethics at the University of Toronto. Jennifer’s program of research addresses emergent ethical issues at the frontier of cancer care. Innovative discovery, precision medicine, and breakthrough therapies are fast emerging as sources of hope for people with cancer. The use of artificial intelligence to support highly personalized therapies further promises to revolutionize cancer care. These ground-breaking advances raise significant ethical issues that health systems, professionals, patients, and caregivers must navigate, such as ensuring equitable access, safeguarding patients from known and potential harm, and avoiding bias and discrimination. Her work bridges normative bioethical theory and clinical practice, research, and education, and she advises provincial, national, and international bodies on bioethics and health policy.
