The role of data in tackling climate change
Access to the right data is essential in tackling climate change. As highlighted in the UK’s National Data Strategy: ‘The fight against climate change, international crime and the coronavirus pandemic are not confined to the borders of one country. Addressing them head on is made easier if data is available.’
But what is data’s role in tackling climate change? And how can data leaders, policymakers, regulators, and researchers working to tackle climate change make better decisions using data?
On Monday 18 October, join expert speakers Jo-Jo Hubbard (co-founder and CEO, Electron) and Volker Buscher (Chief Data Officer, Arup), as they discuss the role of data in tackling climate change at our next ODI Canalside Chat. Enjoy a complimentary light lunch, opportunities to network and the chance to take part in a live Q&A.
This is a free, in-person event and will be held in Kings Place, King's Cross, London.
And, as an added bonus, we’re offering all attendees a complimentary VIP ticket to our ODI Summit 2021 – Data <> People. Taking place online on Tuesday 2 November, we’ll be bringing together a global audience of over 2,000 delegates to explore what it means to be human in a world of data. This is a chance for you to be a part of the conversation.
About the speakers
Jo-Jo Hubbard is the co-founder and CEO of Electron, an award-winning climate tech company developing a market platform for trading renewable energy and network capacity. She is a frequent keynote speaker at energy and technology events; sits on expert advisory boards on digital innovation and transformation for Ofgem, National Grid ESO, Future Cleantech Architects and others; and is a strong advocate of the foundational role that a digital, distributed energy system has in enabling net zero.
Jo-Jo believes that the full decarbonisation and transformation of the energy sector will not happen without new, shared digital infrastructure and marketplaces to allocate resource more efficiently.
Volker Buscher is the Chief Data Officer of Arup, where he is responsible for developing the data solutions to support Arup-wide automation, services and products. Volker’s expertise includes the role of data in achieving sustainable development goals, including combating climate change.
He has previously worked as a Project Director for public and private sector clients in the UK, Europe, Middle East, US and SE Asia and led Arup’s global digital advisory services.
As an experienced non-Executive Director, Volker sits on a number of advisory boards including the Smart London Board advising the Mayor of London, the Smart Cities Forum advising UK Ministers for Cities and Technology, together with advisory roles for ISO, BSI, Digital Economy Catapult and the Canary Wharf Cognicity program.
