This programme of work focuses on building open, trustworthy data ecosystems to advance broader social, environmental and economic goals such as those set out in the UN’s 2030 Development Agenda.
Making data ecosystems efficient where data flows appropriately between people, devices, organisations and even countries requires complex multi-stakeholder interactions. The ODI aims to map these ecosystems and bring these stakeholders together to solve societal and business challenges.
This programme aims to:
- assess and map the status of data ecosystems related to challenges such as those outlined in the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals,
- research and communicate the value of data sharing to tackle social, environmental and economic goals to stimulate collaboration between data holders and users,
- help organisations to effectively share and open data for ecosystem-level use in ways that promote trust and ethics, and
- help organisations to take better decisions and develop more innovative solutions by integrating open and shared data from multiple sources.
This will result in:
- data infrastructure that is as open as possible around common challenges, and
- innovation mechanisms to stimulate the use of data for the creation of products and services.
How you can get involved
Access our research and provide input
Explore how data sharing in your field of work can create public good, or how improving access to a specific type of data can further the goals of the wider sector.
Access, provide input, and use our tools developed by the ODI to help illustrate data sharing opportunities in different sectors.
Explore how data sharing in their field of work can create public good, such as the report published with the Lloyd’s Register Foundation on how sharing engineering data can increase safety, or how improving access to a specific type of data can further the goals of the wider sector such as the report for the Data Communications Company about improving data access in the UK smart meter data ecosystem.
Access, provide input, and use our tools developed by the ODI to help illustrate data sharing opportunities in different sectors such as the data spectrum for energy.
