Many of the R&D projects that we carried out in year one have created methodologies that could be applied across sectors, such as drawing ecosystem maps to understand actors, roles and data exchanges. Other work, within and outside the ODI, have similarly looked at methods to describing the data ecosystem in a sector.
These methodologies can help to identify opportunities for further interventions: datasets whose quality or openness should be improved, missing standards for data formats or identifiers, policies that could be made more robust.
In this project we will combine, test and refine these methodologies against selected sectors including transport. We will create maps of data ecosystems within these sectors, which will help to identify learning needs and relevant interventions.
This work is part of a three-year innovation programme, running to March 2020 with a funding profile of £2m each year from Innovate UK, the UK’s innovation agency.
The work will enable the UK to build on its established strengths in data and data analytics, break new ground in creating value from data across industry, and ensure that the UK remains at the forefront of data innovation globally.
