Antimicrobial resistance and data

In response to the growing public health crisis of antimicrobial resistance (AMR), we ran a short project exploring how to gather and openly share data from antibiotic/AMR surveillance initiatives run by pharmaceutical companies.

Supported by a grant from Wellcome, this project gave an opportunity for us to apply our expertise in developing data infrastructure – the standards, registers, data assets and data governance, and means of sharing data such as data portals – to strengthen the ability and motivation of pharmaceutical companies to share data.

This project allowed us to understand the data practices of pharmaceutical companies, identify challenges, and develop a prototype to showcase what can be done. We hope that this will be the start of a much bigger contribution within the area of AMR, transforming how the sector stewards and creates value from data, contributing to better health outcomes for all.
